Botox & Anti-Wrinkle Injections in London

Reviewed by Dr Elham Kordrostami, GDC-registered dentist (No. 277619)

Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most widely used non-surgical aesthetic treatments for softening expression lines such as forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet treatment.

We use licensed botulinum toxin products such as Botox® in our treatments.

These treatments work by temporarily relaxing specific facial muscles to create a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Several brands of botulinum toxin type A exist, including the well-known brand Botox®, which is a prescription-only medicine (POM) and can only be administered following a consultation with a qualified prescriber.

This page provides general educational information about how anti-wrinkle injections work, what they may be used for, and what patients can typically expect. Suitability, dosage, and product choice are always determined during a one-to-one consultation with a medical practitioner.

How Anti-Wrinkle Injections Work

Facial muscles repeatedly contract during expressions such as frowning, squinting, or raising the eyebrows. Over time, these movements can contribute to the formation of lines and wrinkles. Anti-wrinkle injections use small, precise doses of botulinum toxin type A to temporarily reduce the activity of selected muscles.

When the targeted muscles relax, the overlying skin appears smoother. The goal is not to “freeze” the face but to soften the intensity of expression lines while maintaining a natural look. Many patients choose this treatment to appear more rested, reduce signs of stress or ageing, or prevent lines from deepening over time.
Commonly treated areas include:
• Forehead lines
• Frown lines (the “11 lines”)  – softening frown lines between the brows
• Crow’s feet
• Bunny lines
• Chin dimpling
• Neck bands      improving the appearance of neck lines

Medical and Functional Uses

In addition to cosmetic applications, botulinum toxin injections may also be used for certain medical or functional concerns. These include masseter tension associated with jaw clenching or bruxism, and shoulder or trapezius tightness that may contribute to discomfort.
If appropriate, botulinum toxin may help reduce excessive clenching, refine a square jaw shape, or ease muscular tension. You can read more on our dedicated pages for masseter muscle treatment and trapezius/shoulder slimming treatment.
As with all uses of botulinum toxin, these treatments require an individual consultation with a prescriber to confirm suitability

Treatment Process

A typical treatment involves:
1. Consultation: A medical practitioner assesses your facial anatomy, medical history, and goals. Product choice and treatment suitability are discussed.
2. Preparation: The area is cleansed, and injection points are planned.
3. Precise Injections: Small amounts of botulinum toxin are administered with a fine needle to the targeted muscles.
4. Aftercare Advice: You will receive guidance on how to care for the treated area immediately after the procedure.
Anti-wrinkle injections generally have minimal downtime. Most people resume daily activities immediately.

When to Expect Results

The effects typically begin to appear within 3–5 days, with optimal results seen at around two weeks. Outcomes usually last between 3–4 months, though this varies between individuals depending on muscle strength, metabolism, and lifestyle factors.
The treatment can be repeated at intervals recommended by your practitioner. Many patients find that regular maintenance helps lines remain softer over time.
